Purpose of this site

This site provides general educational information about the home-buying process. It is not a lender, broker, or real estate agency, and it does not provide financial, legal, or real-estate advice.

What we collect

  • Emails sent to hello@codebead.com — if you reach out through our contact page, we'll see whatever your email naturally includes (your address, name if provided, and your message), used only to respond to you.
  • Basic, aggregated usage data — such as which pages are viewed, used to understand which guides are helpful.
  • Cookie preference — a small local record of whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies.

We do not collect income, credit, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive financial information through this site, because we don't offer quotes, calculators that require this data, or pre-approval forms.

What stays on your device only

A few features on this site — the “where are you in the process” stage picker, the interactive checklists, the knowledge-check quizzes, and the sliders in our interactive tools — save your choices using your browser's local storage so they're there the next time you visit. None of this is ever sent to us or to anyone else; it lives entirely on your own device, and clearing your browser data clears it too. Specifically:

  • Your chosen stage (e.g., “Actively Looking”) and which pages you've visited, used only to show a progress bar and page recommendations to you
  • Checklist items you've checked off, used only to remember your progress on a printable kit
  • Quiz results, used only to show you an encouraging message — nothing is graded or reported anywhere
  • Slider positions in our interactive tools, which reset when you leave the page and are never saved at all

Cookies and advertising

This site displays ads to help keep it free, and uses Google Analytics to understand aggregated page traffic. Both may use cookies or similar technologies. You can decline non-essential cookies using the banner shown on your first visit; declining does not block you from reading any guide.

Where you're visiting from affects the starting point, not the choice itself. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies stay off until you actively accept them. Outside those regions, they may be on by default from your first visit, in line with what's generally permitted there — and you can still decline or change your mind at any time using the banner or the link below.

Data we don't collect

  • No account creation, so no stored passwords or profiles
  • No income, employment, or credit data collection
  • No sale of personal data to third parties

Some pages may link to external resources (for example, a government housing agency). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites you choose to visit.

Your choices

  • Decline non-essential cookies at any time via the cookie banner or your browser settings
  • Contact us to ask what information, if any, we hold about a form submission you made

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The “last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
